On January 13, 2017 Dr. Nicole Lemanski and practice administrator Brian Lemanski joined forces with the Albany Medical College’s student chapter of the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) to run an ophthalmology screening clinic. The clinic, held at the Mosque, Masjid as-Salaam, in Albany, NY sought to examine the status of ocular health in the community while also serving to teach the next generation of medical students. At the clinic, the medical students tested visual acuity, measured eye pressure, tested participants with Amsler grids, performed blood pressure screenings and learned the signs and symptoms of common eye diseases, such as glaucoma and cataracts. The students further provided education to the community through discussion and posters on preventative eye exams and general eye health.
